The Luftwaffe belt buckle was worn by enlisted personnel of Germany’s air force throughout the Second World War. Unlike Army buckles bearing the “Gott Mit Uns” motto, Luftwaffe buckles featured the characteristic spread-wing eagle surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. Early examples were often produced in aluminium, while steel became increasingly common as wartime demands and material shortages affected production.
Leather tabs attached to the buckle were frequently stamped with the manufacturer and year of production, providing valuable historical information for collectors. This example, marked Brüder Schneider 1940, dates from the early years of the war and represents a standard piece of equipment worn by Luftwaffe personnel during the conflict.
