Reichsparteitag 1940 – Large Deschler München Plaque – Richard Klein

Large original German Third Reich Reichsparteitag 1940 commemorative plaque, designed by the renowned German sculptor and medallist Richard Klein and manufactured by Deschler, München. This is a prototype since due the war the Reichsparteitag 1940 never took place!

The obverse features the profile of a German soldier wearing a Stahlhelm, flanked by a sword and a torch surrounded by oak and laurel leaves. Beneath the soldier is the German eagle holding the wreath with swastika, with the inscription: “REICHSPARTEITAG 1940”

The reverse features a large laurel wreath surrounding the inscription: “Nur tapfere Völker haben Geschichte” (“Only brave peoples have history”). The reverse is clearly marked DESCHLER MÜNCHEN. Size: 8,5 cm diameter.

The 1940 Reichsparteitag in Nürnberg was ultimately cancelled and never held, making surviving prototype examples of the associated commemorative pieces interesting historical objects.

This example displays attractive age-related patina and surface toning throughout. The detailed relief remains well defined, with the original finish giving the piece a particularly attractive appearance.

A substantial and impressive Third Reich period commemorative piece, particularly suitable for collectors of German medals, plaques and political memorabilia.
