Historical Description
The Nationaalsocialistische Jeugd Vlaanderen (NSJV) functioned as the principal Flemish nationalist youth organization during the German occupation of Belgium in the Second World War. Strongly influenced by contemporary nationalist and paramilitary youth movements, the organization utilized its own rank structure, uniforms, and insignia system.
This shoulder board represents the rank of Stamheer, identifiable by the four applied metal rank stars. The black cloth construction with contrasting piping is characteristic of wartime NSJV insignia manufacture.
Due to the relatively limited size of the NSJV and the widespread destruction or disposal of collaboration-related material after 1944, surviving original insignia are increasingly difficult to encounter today, especially higher-ranking examples.
