Historical Description

The Nationaalsocialistische Jeugd Vlaanderen (NSJV) was the Flemish nationalist youth movement active during the German occupation of Belgium in the Second World War. Organized along paramilitary and ideological lines, the NSJV adopted uniforms and rank insignia inspired by contemporary European youth and political organizations.

This single shoulder board belongs to the rank of Hopman, a leadership rank within the organization. The dark cloth construction with light-colored piping and applied metal rank stars reflects the typical NSJV style seen on wartime uniforms. The presence of the litze further distinguishes the rank and function within the hierarchy.

Original NSJV insignia are considerably scarcer today than many larger Axis youth movement items due to the relatively limited size of the organization and the destruction or disposal of collaboration-related material after the liberation of Belgium.
