Infanterie-Division took part in the Invasion of Norway in April 1940 and stayed there afterwards as an occupational force. Somewhere in 1943, he was transferred to the 7. Kompanie/ Grenadier-Regiment 862 of the newly formed 274. Infanterie-Division in Stavanger, Norway. During his service, he was promoted several times reaching the rank of Unteroffizier in 1945 and he was decorated with the Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern on January 30, 1945. He was granted leave several times and in 1944 he got 2x special leave because likely his house and, or parental house was bombed.
