Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo & Letter of Walther Wenck. General der Panzertruppe Walther Wenck (18.09.1900 † 01.05.1982) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on December 28, 1942 as Oberst im Generalstab und Chef of the Generalstab/ 3. Rumänische Armee. Only one photo is signed, other is just extra added on the paper.
He was the youngest General of the branch (General der Truppengattung) in the German Army and a staff officer during World War II. At the end of the war, he commanded the German Twelfth Army that took part in the Battle of Berlin. Historians consider Wenck a capable commander and a brilliant improviser, although incapable of the impossible task he was given of saving Berlin in 1945. Read more on Walther Wenck (Wikipedia)
Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
