Historical Description

Infanterie-Regiment 280 was formed in 1939 and saw active service during the early campaigns of the war, including the Western Campaign and later the Eastern Front. Soldiers of the regiment participated in heavy frontline combat, where awards such as the Iron Cross 2nd Class and Infantry Assault Badge reflected both bravery and sustained combat service.

The grouping tells the wartime story of Bonzelett through both official military documents and highly personal material. The included photographs provide a fascinating insight into his military and personal life, featuring portraits, group photographs, gravesites, and family-related scenes.

Particularly interesting is the inclusion of personal letters and papers from Hans Leyendecker, described as one of Bonzelett’s closest friends. These documents add another deeply personal dimension to the grouping and provide rare insight into the relationships and private lives behind the wartime paperwork.

The combination of original award documents signed by notable commanders, wartime photographs, and extensive personal correspondence makes this grouping especially desirable for collectors and researchers alike.

Overall, an outstanding untouched and research-worthy Wehrmacht grouping to a decorated infantry soldier of Infanterie-Regiment 280, awarded both the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Infantry Assault Badge in Silver.

A rare opportunity to acquire a highly personal and historically significant wartime grouping with excellent display and research potential.
