Wehrmacht Soldbuch & Führerschein Grouping – Festungs-Pak Verband XXVI / Berlin 1943–1945
Original and well-filled Wehrmacht Soldbuch and Wehrmacht-Führerschein grouping belonging to Kraftfahrer (later Oberschütze and Gefreiter) Curt Genendsch, born 4 October 1903 in Berlin.
This attractive and researchable grouping follows the military service of a German Army driver from training through late-war fortress anti-tank units and Berlin-area formations.
Highlights include:
- Original Soldbuch with photograph
- Matching Wehrmacht-Führerschein (military driver’s license)
- NSKK qualification for operation of Anthrazit- und Holzgas-Generatorfahrzeuge (wood-gas and anthracite-powered vehicles)
- Wehrmacht-Kommandantur Berlin identification papers
- Detailed service history from 1943 through the final months of the war
- Promotion entries to Oberschütze and later Gefreiter
- Multiple leave, hospital and equipment entries
Documented units include:
- Kraftfahr-Ausbildungs-Abteilung 3 Rathenow
- Standort-Bataillon z.b.V. Berlin
- Festungs-Pak-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Abteilung 102
- Festungs-Pak-Kompanie 10
- Festungs-Pak-Verband 6/XXVI
Particularly desirable is the combination of the Soldbuch with the matching military driver’s license and specialized fuel-generator qualification, illustrating the increasingly important role of military transport personnel during Germany’s fuel shortages in the later war years. No awards entered in the Soldbuch.
The documents remain in honest wartime condition with expected wear, handling marks, folds and age toning. The Soldbuch is extensively filled out and offers excellent research potential.
A very interesting late-war Berlin-related Wehrmacht document grouping with strong identification value and clear unit history.

Historical Description
Curt Genendsch entered military service during the later years of the Second World War and was trained as a military driver through Kraftfahr-Ausbildungs-Abteilung 3 in Rathenow, one of the Army’s motor transport training establishments.
His Wehrmacht driver’s license records qualification to operate motor vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, while an additional certification issued by the NSKK-Motorgruppe Berlin confirms successful training on anthracite and wood-gas generator vehicles. Such vehicles became increasingly important as Germany suffered severe fuel shortages, forcing both military and civilian transportation services to rely on alternative fuel systems.
The Soldbuch records service with several replacement and field formations before assignment to:
- Festungs-Pak-Kompanie 10
- Festungs-Pak-Verband 6/XXVI
These formations belonged to the network of fortress anti-tank units established during the latter stages of the war to defend key positions and fortified areas against advancing Allied forces. Such units frequently operated a mixture of anti-tank guns, transport assets and improvised defensive positions.
The final entries indicate service with the Standort-Bataillon z.b.V. Berlin and later Festungs-Pak-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Abteilung 102, placing the soldier within the military structure supporting the defense of Germany during the final months of the conflict.
The grouping provides a fascinating insight into the career of a Wehrmacht driver whose service reflects several important late-war developments:
- Motor transport training
- Alternative fuel vehicle operation
- Fortress anti-tank formations
- Berlin-area military administration
- The increasingly desperate defensive organization of the German Army during 1944–1945
Extensively filled Soldbücher with matching driver’s documents, photographs, unit transfers and late-war fortress unit entries are increasingly difficult to obtain and offer considerable historical and research value for collectors of German military documentation.
