Small grouping of a Wehrpass, 2x Award documents, 2x papers & a booklet of Gefreiter Werner Wendel, who served with the 3. Kompanie/ Pionier-Bataillon 72 & Infanterie-Regiment 124 of the 72. Infanterie-Division. Gefreiter Wendel didn’t survive the war and was Killed in Action on September 9, 1942 in Rshew, Russia.. The 72. Infanterie-Division was a highly decorated Division within the Wehrmacht including 9 Nahkampfspange in Gold-Trägers (Close Combat Badge in Gold-bearers)!
He earned 4 awards: Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42, Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz and the Königlich Bulgarische Bronzene Veridenstmedaille ohne Krone am Kriegsband.
The set consists of:
- Wehrpass
- Award document for the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse (Iron Cross 2nd Class), signed by Generalleutnant u. Kommandeur Franz Mattenklott.
Interestingly it notes the place for the award: “Vor Melitopol (Ukraine)!” - Award document for the Königlich Bulgarische Bronzene Veridenstmedaille ohne Krone am Kriegsband, signed by an unknown officer.
Interestingly, also noted that is was awarded “Auf der Krim“! - 2x Papers
