The reverse retains its original wartime typed press caption, period press markings, issue date of 12 July 1944, and original image reference number A 129 636.

According to the original wartime press caption, Eichmeier distinguished himself during the defensive fighting in the Kowel sector on the Eastern Front. For the combat achievements and leadership of his unit, he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross on 11 June 1944.

The reverse further notes that Eichmeier was born in Munich and was 44 years old at the time of the photograph’s wartime release.
