His positions in Nazi Germany included deputy governor to Hans Frank in the General Government of Occupied Poland, and Reichskommissar for the German-occupied Netherlands. In the latter role, he shared responsibility for the deportation of Dutch Jews and the shooting of hostages. Original WWII German Krimschild (Crimea Shield) award document (Besitzzeugnis) awarded to Unteroffizier Erich Neuber of 2./Kraftwagentransportabteilung 501.

The certificate was issued on 30 January 1943 and confirms the award of the Krimschild, one of the German campaign shields instituted to recognize service during the Crimean Campaign. The document bears the facsimile signature of Generalfeldmarschall Erich von Manstein, whose forces conducted the successful operations in the Crimea during 1941–1942.

Award documents for the Krimschild are highly sought after, particularly those issued to support and transport personnel who played a vital logistical role in maintaining German operations in the region. As a member of Kraftwagentransportabteilung 501, Neuber served in a transport unit responsible for the movement of personnel, supplies, ammunition and equipment under demanding frontline conditions.

The document remains in good original condition with period filing holes, fold marks, light age-related wear and handling traces consistent with wartime use. An attractive and historically significant campaign award document from one of the most famous German operations on the Eastern Front.

Original Scarce Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Walther Kurt Nehring. General der Panzertruppen Walther Kurt Nehring (15.08.1892 † 20.04.1983) earned the Ritterkreuz on July 24, 1941 as Generalmajor und Kommandeur of the 18. Panzer-Division, the Eichenlaub on February 8, 1944 as General der Panzertruppe und Kommandierender General of the XXIV. Panzerkorps and the Schwertern on January 22, 1945 as General der Panzertruppe und Kommandierender General of the XXIV. Panzerkorps. Condition as seen. Large size: 20x25cm!

Nehring joined the military service on 16 September 1911 in the Infanterie-Regiment 152. He became a commissioned Leutnant on 18 December 1913. On 26 October 1940 he received command of the 18th Panzer Division at Chemnitz, which he commanded during the operations Barbarossa and Typhoon. The division led by Nehring, is accused by numerous current accounts, of war crimes.

Nehring took command of the Afrika Korps in May 1942 and took part in the last major Axis offensive (Operation Brandung) of the Western Desert campaign and the subsequent Battle of Alam Halfa (31 August – 7 September 1942), during which he was wounded in an air raid. Between November and December 1942, he commanded the LXXXX Army Corps, the German contingent in Tunisia.

After North Africa, Nehring was posted to the Eastern Front where he commanded first the XXIV. Panzer Corps, and then from July to August 1944 the Fourth Panzer Army. Nehring then returned to the XXIV in August 1944 and led the Corps until March 1945 when he was made commander of the 1st Panzer Army. During 1944 he was also the commanding officer of the XXXXVIII Panzer Corps. Following the end of the war, Nehring wrote a comprehensive history of the German panzer forces from 1916 to 1945, Die Geschichte der deutschen Panzerwaffe 1916 bis 1945. He also wrote the foreword to Len Deighton’s Blitzkrieg: From the Rise of Hitler to the Fall of Dunkirk.

The image shows Schniewind together with fellow Kriegsmarine officers and naval personnel during an inspection aboard a German naval vessel or coastal command position. Visible are several officers equipped with binoculars and communications gear, emphasizing the operational nature of the scene.

Otto Schniewind was among the most important senior officers of the Kriegsmarine and served as Chief of Staff of the Seekriegsleitung (Naval War Staff) before later becoming Fleet Commander (Flottenchef). Following the loss of Admiral Günther Lütjens during the sinking of the battleship Bismarck, Schniewind assumed a leading role within the operational command structure of the German Navy. He was promoted to Generaladmiral in March 1944 and was a recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross.

Generalmajor Friedrich-Carl von Steinkeller (28 March 1896 † 19 October 1981) was a German officer who rose to the rank of Generalmajor during the Second World War. He distinguished himself as a Panzergrenadier commander in one of the Wehrmacht’s most famous armored formations, the 7. Panzer-Division.

Eichenlaub: Awarded for his further achievements during the battle for the Cherkassy pocket. Especially during the breakout from the pocket he would show great bravery and energy. He collected a Bataillon of stragglers from the Korpsabteilung B and the 5. SS Panzer-Division “Wiking” and broke through a Soviet armoured group south of the road Potschapinzy-Lissjanka. With his horse Lieb then swam over the Gniloi-Tikitsch and reached safety at Lissjanka. For his role in this battle he would be christened the “Lion of Cherkassy” and be awarded the Oakleaves directly from Hitler himself.

Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
