However the gunner, Halm, did not lose his nerve as the hostile tanks got closer. With deadly precision he destroyed 7 Allied tanks in a short time, including a command tank. More tanks were destroyed by the other German defenders, with 96 allied tanks being destroyed in the battle on this day altogether.”

After overcoming the Soviet minefields the German infantry became pinned down in their efforts to take the high ground at Sui Shmotki. At this point Truxa and his Sturmgeschütze were able to rally the attackers and then proceeded to capture the heights in a sharp, aggressive attack. This enabled the German attack to proceed once again and by evening the Soviets had been pushed back 6 km. Despite the overall failure of the German assault Truxa was nonetheless decorated for the Knight’s Cross for his achievements in the attack.”

On the 16.06.1941, during Operation Battleaxe, the 3./Flak-Regiment 33 (mot) was positioned on Hill 208 (between Capuzzo and Sidi Azeiz). On this day one of its gunners, Gefreiter Huebner, managed to destroy 8 enemy tanks in just a few minutes. Two days later, on the 18.11.1941, the Batterie fought near Bardia while subordinated to the 21. Panzer-Division. Here Huebner eliminated another 8 tanks. In total Huebner was able to raise his total of destroyed enemy materiel to 24 tanks and an artillery battery. For this he was decorated with the Knight’s Cross as the first enlisted man of the Afrika-Korps to be so honoured.
