Original award document of Gefreiter Schele for the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse (Iron Cross 2nd Class), awarded for courageous service on July 24, 1941, while serving with the 297. Infanterie-Division. Interesting division as this division fought in the City of Stalingrad and was destroyed there! Document was signed by Max Pfeffer (Pfeffer surrendered to the Soviet forces at the conclusion of the Battle of Stalingrad in 1943. Convicted as a war criminal in the Soviet Union, he died in captivity in 1955.). Condition as seen, has been folded, punched and colored on the reverse in the past.
