Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Gerhard Niemeck. Fahnenjunker-Oberfeldwebel Gerhard Niemeck (10.06.1916 † 19.07.1983) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on March 14, 1943 as Feldwebel und Zugführer in the 8. Kompanie/ Panzer-Regiment 31 of the 5. Panzer-Division. Small photo attached with photo corners on a postcard.
On the 07.03.1943 the 5. Panzer-Division succeeding in largely holding its defensive front, destroying 55 enemy tanks in the process. Of these, Feldwebel Niemeck alone destroyed 15 tanks with his long-barrelled Panzer IV. For his achievements on this day Niemeck would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross.
Provenance: This signature comes from one of the largest postwar signature collection I’ve ever commissioned. This collection was started by a Waffen-SS Veteran, Werner H., in the 1950’s until he passed away.
