Serving with Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 667, he achieved remarkable success against Soviet armor, earning both the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross and the Oak Leaves within a span of just a few months in late 1942 and early 1943. His extraordinary tally of destroyed enemy tanks made him one of the legendary figures of the German assault gun arm.

Awarded the Knight's Cross for actions during the German operation Nordwind. During the heavy fighting for Sessenheim the paratroopers which his platoon was attached to found themselves pinned down by heavy fire outside the town. By his initiative he took a risk and led his assault guns forward to engage the defending AT guns and tanks at close range, where they succeeded in destroying several. With this accomplished the German paratroopers were able to subsequently break through.

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Hans-Joachim Wagner. Hauptmann Hans-Joachim Wagner (28.12.1913 in Neubrandenburg † 09.06.1985 in Kiel) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on January 25, 1945 as Hauptmann with the Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 286.
On 5 December 1944 Wagner's Sturmgeschütze played a crucial role in blunting a Soviet breakthrough aimed towards the northwest, near Pásztó. His vehicles shot up a number of Soviet tanks and forced the survivors and their accompanying infantry to break off the attack. He then rallied a number of fleeing Flak gunners of the 18. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division "Horst Wessel" and got them to reoccupy their gun emplacements. Between these and his own assault guns Wagner was able to establish a blocking position that held for several days without reinforcements. For this accomplishment he was awarded the Knight's Cross.

Original Postwar Signature on a Postwar Photo of Gottfried Tornau. Hauptmann Gottfried Tornau (25.07.1914 † 28.04.1981) earned the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzeson March 5, 1945 as Hauptmann und Führer of Sturmartillerie-Brigade of the Führer-Grenadier-Division "Großdeutschland".
Tornau won his Knight's Cross for actions at Nantikow (Pomerania), where he led a counterattack against a large Soviet armoured attack. He and his men halted the hostile offensive and thereby allowed thousands of wounded soldiers (as well as civilians) to flee west.

Original Extremely Rare Postwar Signature of Wilhelm Wegner. Oberwachtmeister Wilhelm Wegner (21.09.1914 † 10.03.1989) earned the Ritterkreuz on July 13, 1943 as Oberwachtmeister und Zugführer in the 1. Kompanie/ Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung “Großdeutschland”.
Ritterkreuz: On march 14th Wilhelm Wegners platoon had to support the 3rd Schwadron of Pz.Aufklärungsbteilung GD. When the assault began at 9am the Schadron sat on Wegners "Sturmgeschützen". After the first contact to the enemy at "Stanowoje" the Schwadron dicovered huge amounts of enemy troops there. Athough the russians were in superiority Wegner decided to attack the enemy at its flank. Totally surprised of this assault of the small german force the Russians lost a few tanks and had to pull back. Wegners Sturmgeschütz killed 6 tanks at this short fight. For that action of bravery Wegner was awarded the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes on June 13th 1943.

Knight's Cross: Awarded for his support of Gruppe Ens during the breakthrough of the Metaxas line. Despite the strong enemy defensive fire and the difficult terrain he managed to bring his Sturmgeschütze into a suitable firing position for covering the attack of Gruppe Ens. Wehrpass of Unteroffizier Rolf Jordan who served with the Regimentsstab/ Artillerie-Regiment 76 & the 2. Batterie/ Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 228. He was Killed in Action on September 3, 1943 near Borki by a "Panzerbüchse-geschütz Kopf" (hit by Panzerbüchse in the head) and earned the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz (2x entered for 20.1.42 & 25.1.43 ?), Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 & the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse. He got wounded on December 15, 1942 during the attempt to penetrate the Stalingrad pocket. He was trained as a 'Richtkanonier'. Good condition.

A rare set of two brothers from Schleswig who both were Killed in Action on the Eastern Front. Interesting, both served as occupational force in Denmark before transferred to a combat unit. One brother (Klaus) was KIA only 1 week after arriving in his front unit Infanterie-Regiment 257 of the 83. Infanterie-Division on May 6, 1942 and the second brother (Hugo) was KIA on November 6, 1944 in Gelauce in Courland while serving with Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 912. Comes with their postwar certificates of death and a wartime letter of a friend condoling the mother (who already lost her husband in 1933) and 5x Feldpostletters.

2x Award documents of Unteroffizier Paul-Heinz Hoffmann, who served with the Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 1175 / Panzerjäger-Kompanie 1175 and was awarded the Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse for his heroic service in September, 1944 (see document that writes his actions) while subordinated to the 75. Infanterie-Division. Document was signed by GeneralmajorKarl Arning (Ritterkreuz). He was also awarded the Allgemeines-Sturmabzeichen on October 22, 1944. Signed by the unknown Commander. Documents have been folded in the past. Comes with a period paper (pasted on a hard carton) that also describes the action that earned Paul-Heinz Hoffmann his EK1! It could have easily been higher. Uffz. Hoffmann was 'Richtschütze' in the Platoon Commander & Chef's Assault Gun, he destroyed 10 Soviet tanks & 2 assault guns. He also bravely defended his KO'd Assault Gun with a MG and kept the Soviets at distance causing severe losses on their side. By doing this, his StuG was succesfully towed away in safety.

Klasse for his heroic service on July 9, 1944 while subordinated to the 337. Infanterie-Division. Document was signed by an unknown Oberst. He was also awarded the Allgemeines-Sturmabzeichen on July 31, 1944. Signed by HauptmannWilhelm Kröhne (Ritterkreuz). Documents have been folded in the past and punched.
2x Award documents of Kanonier Karl Kanz, who served with the 3. Batterie/ Heeres-Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 902 and was awarded the Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse for his action(s) in September / October 1944 while subordinated to the 49. Volks-Grenadier-Division. Likely for actions in the Aachen area. Document was signed by an unknown Oberst. He was also wounded on October 8, 1944 and was awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz for his wound suffered. Signed by an unknown Doctor. The Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 902 was recreated after it was destroyed in Cherbourg. Document were punched. The EK2 document was reinforced with some tape.

SS-Hauptscharführer Friedrich "Fritz" Henke (06.01.1921 † 15.11.1999) earned the Ritterkreuz on February 12, 1944 as SS-Oberscharführer und Zugführer in the 3. Batterie/ SS-Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 1 “LSSAH”. Good condition. Measuring: 8,2x12,3cm.
Fritz Henke was a platoon leader in the StuG battalion of the LSSAH in late 1943. Near the end of that year, on the 29.12.1943, Henke was helping protect a group of friendly infantry when a small tank attack was launched. He destroyed 2 tanks, but this initial incursion was soon followed up by a much heavier assault. Thus followed a fierce battle that lasted the whole day. On one occasion, he knocked out a Soviet command tank from which the enemy commander escaped, only to be hit by a pistol shot by Henke. By the end of the day he had destroyed a total of 21 tanks and 11 AT guns. For his notable success, without much friendly support at that, he was later presented with the Knight’s Cross. He had destroyed 38 tanks in total by this time.

Knight's Cross: "On the 23.07.1944 the remnants of the 292. Infanterie-Division became encircled near the village of Radziwillowka (about 50 km northwest of Brest-Litovsk), and it requested relief from the Korps. The 3. Kavallerie-Brigade was assigned for this task, however since it was itself involved in heavy defensive combat it was only able to dispatch a small Kampfgruppe that included 3 Sturmgeschützen commanded by Leutnant Bose. During the march to the area one Sturmgeschütz threw a track, and so only 2 were left to support the cavalrymen in their relief effort. Radziwillowka was captured in a short yet fierce battle on the 28.07.1944, and in the process 11 T-34/85 tanks were destroyed (including 4 by Bose himself). With this the 292. Infanterie-Division was relieved, and it was thereafter possible to create a new defensive front. Bose had shown great tactical initiative during this battle, going against the planning of the 292. Infanterie-Division’s Ia in order to achieve success. This deed was also of great importance for the whole 2. Armee as it prevented a breakthrough by strong enemy forces into its flank. For this, as well as reaching a personal total of 19 enemy tanks destroyed, Bose was awarded the Knight’s Cross."

Knight’s Cross: In March 1945 the Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 210 was deployed in support of the 1. Marine-Division. On the 16.03.1945 Leutnant Köhler and his Sturmgeschütz Zug were deployed on Hill 42, located at the seam between the 1. Marine-Division and the Panzer-Division Schlesien. On this day the Soviets attacked the hill with about 20 Sherman tanks. Despite three attempts to do so, they were unable to take the hill and lost 15 tanks in the process. 6 of these were knocked out personally by Leutnant Köhler.Through the steadfastness of Köhler and the whole Sturmgeschütz-Brigade the Soviet attempt to break through to the road bridge over the Oder was stymied. This allowed the refugee columns from East Prussia and Pomerania, which were still crossing, to pass over unhindered. After this the German fighting units in turn followed them, and the bridge was blown at dawn on the 17.03.1945. For his role in ensuring this successful outcome, while also raising his total of destroyed tanks to 21, Köhler would be decorated with the Knight’s Cross. (Source: Traces of War)
