An original Imperial German Army enlisted man’s belt buckle (Koppelschloss) featuring the famous “GOTT MIT UNS” (“God With Us”) motto surrounding the Imperial Crown within a laurel wreath.
This is the classic Model 1895 (M1895) buckle worn by enlisted soldiers of the Kingdom of Prussia, by far the largest contingent of the Imperial German Army during the First World War. The buckle is constructed from brass with a separately attached roundel, while the reverse retains its original steel catch and attachment bar.
The buckle displays honest field wear and an attractive aged patina consistent with military service. The reverse shows typical oxidation and wear expected from an original period example. No maker’s mark is visible.
A classic and highly collectible Imperial German military item, suitable for any collection focusing on the German Empire, Kaiserreich, or the First World War.

Following the introduction of the Model 1895 equipment system, enlisted soldiers of the Imperial German Army wore the iconic “GOTT MIT UNS” belt buckle. The inscription translates as “God With Us”, reflecting the traditional Prussian royal motto adopted by the military.
The central Imperial Crown represents the authority of the German Emperor (Kaiser), while the surrounding oak and laurel wreath symbolizes strength, victory, and loyalty.
These buckles were worn throughout the First World War (1914–1918) by millions of German soldiers serving on every front. Although each German state maintained slight variations, the Prussian version was by far the most commonly encountered due to Prussia’s dominant role within the German Empire.
The buckle formed an essential part of the leather equipment issued to infantry, artillery, cavalry, engineers, and numerous support formations.
