Awarded for his achievements as a bomber/transport pilot over the course of 365 sorties. Later, on the Eastern front, he would be particularly successful against shipping in the Caspian Sea and Lower Volga. On the 31.10.-01.11.1942 alone he sunk a 1500 GRT steamer, a 1000 GRT tug, two small freighters and a tug with two barges.
