Photo sizes:

  • Private photographs approx. 6.3 × 9.3 cm
  • Postcard standard format

SS-Standartenführer Leon Degrelle (15 June 1906, Bouillon † 31 March 1994, Málaga) was the Belgian leader of the Rexist Movement and one of the most famous foreign volunteers to serve in the Waffen-SS during the Second World War. He rose from enlisted service to command the Walloon volunteers on the Eastern Front, eventually leading the 28. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division “Wallonien.”

Degrelle distinguished himself in heavy fighting against Soviet forces, receiving some of the highest decorations awarded to non-German volunteers. He survived the war, escaping to Spain where he lived in exile until his death in 1994.

Awards and Decorations

  • Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) – 20 February 1944, as SS-Hauptsturmführer and Führer of 5. SS-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade “Wallonien.”

  • Oak Leaves to the Knight’s Cross (Eichenlaub) – 27 August 1944, as SS-Sturmbannführer and Kommandeur of 28. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division “Wallonien.”

  • Additional decorations included the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class and Infantry Assault Badge.

Collector’s Note

Leon Degrelle remains one of the most controversial and well-known foreign volunteers of the Waffen-SS. His rise from volunteer soldier to divisional commander, along with his postwar exile and continued notoriety, makes his autograph especially rare and sought-after. This large-format signed photo is an exceptional piece for advanced collectors of Waffen-SS history, foreign volunteer units, and Knight’s Cross recipients.

A rare and historically significant grouping with strong collector, display, and research value for collectors of Belgian WWII history and collaboration-era material.

Studioportrait of Fallschirmjäger in Camouflage Smock – Italy, February 1944

€95,00

Original wartime studio portrait photograph of a German Fallschirmjäger (paratrooper), shown wearing a highly desirable camouflage jump smock (Fallschirmschützenbluse) and a distinctive polka-dot scarf / neck cloth. Postcard-sized format.

Rare and historically significant original Third Reich personnel file relating to Karl Schmidt, a jurist who served within the Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo) and later the Sicherheitsdienst (SD). The appointment proposal bears an original period ink signature of Heinrich Himmler.

The document group concerns Schmidt’s appointment from Regierungsassessor to Regierungsrat and includes official correspondence between the Reich Ministry of the Interior and the Präsidialkanzlei des Führers und Reichskanzlers.

Particularly noteworthy is the detailed personnel record listing Schmidt’s career progression through the judicial system before entering the Gestapo and subsequently being appointed to a senior security position in occupied France.

The file records that Schmidt:

  • Passed the first legal examination on 30 October 1930
  • Passed the major state examination in 1934
  • Served as Gerichtsassessor and later as a lawyer in Hamm
  • Entered the Staatspolizeileitstelle Stuttgart on 18 July 1939
  • Was transferred to the State Police office at Neustadt an der Weinstraße in 1940
  • Was permanently accepted into the Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo) service on 1 October 1940
  • Was transferred on 1 July 1941 as Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD (BdS) in Metz, occupied Lorraine

The personnel sheet further notes:

  • Membership in the NSDAP since 1 May 1933
  • Party number 2,939,452
  • Rank of SS-Hauptsturmführer im SD
  • Association with the Reichsstelle für Sippenforschung

An especially interesting feature is the official statement:

“Die Parteikanzlei hat Einwendungen gegen die Ernennung nicht erhoben.”
(“The Party Chancellery has raised no objections to the appointment.”)

The document bears official filing references, stamps, annotations, and facsimile signatures associated with the appointment process handled through the Führer’s Chancellery.

WWII Kriegsmarine Normandy Campaign Document Group – EK2 & Destroyer War Badge to Torpedoboot “Jaguar”

€550,00

A highly desirable and historically significant Kriegsmarine award document group awarded to Maschinengefreiter Herbert Schulz, who served aboard the German torpedo boat Torpedoboot “Jaguar” during the final and dramatic months of the war in Western Europe.

The group consists of:

  • Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse) award document
  • Destroyer War Badge (Zerstörerkriegsabzeichen) award document
  • Both specifically identifying service aboard Torpedoboot Jaguar
  • Both signed by Konteradmiral Leo Kreisch, Commander of German Destroyer Forces (Führer der Zerstörer)

The Iron Cross document is dated 24 June 1944, placing it directly within the Normandy campaign. Remarkably, the award was issued only days after Jaguar was sunk during an RAF air attack on Le Havre on the night of 14/15 June 1944, making this a fascinating survivor-related document from one of the Kriegsmarine’s most desperate periods of combat.

The accompanying Destroyer War Badge document, dated 4 May 1944, confirms Herbert Schulz’s operational service aboard Jaguar prior to the Allied invasion of France.

Named Kriegsmarine award documents connected to a specific warship are always sought after, and examples directly linked to the Normandy campaign are considerably scarcer than standard Heer award paperwork.

A superb and highly displayable Kriegsmarine document set with strong research and historical potential.
